Let me tell you a story.

A few years ago, I worked with a guy who never said “thank you.” Not once. Not after I stayed late to help him meet a deadline. Not after I covered for him when he was sick. Not even after I brought him coffee every damn morning.

At first, I thought, maybe he’s just busy. But over time, it became clear: he didn’t care. He took my efforts for granted. And guess what? I stopped going the extra mile for him.

Here’s the thing: when you don’t say “thank you,” you’re not just being rude. You’re slowly eroding the foundation of your relationships, both personal and professional.

Why Appreciation Matters.

Appreciation isn’t just a nicety. It’s the glue that holds relationships together. When you thank someone, you’re acknowledging their effort, their time, and their value. You’re saying, I see you, and I value what you bring to the table.

But when you don’t? You’re sending the opposite message: Your effort doesn’t matter to me.

And that’s a dangerous message to send.
